Senior Expert

Laura Giulia Cassio is a Senior Expert at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). Her work focuses on social inclusion, fairness, loneliness and social connection, with a particular interest in translating scientific evidence into policy. She has contributed to the JRC’s work on loneliness in Europe, including as a co-author of the report Loneliness in the EU – Insights from surveys and online media data, and has been closely involved in the JRC’s wider work on understanding loneliness and its societal and policy implications.

Her broader work also addresses equality and inclusion, social disadvantage and the conditions that enable people to participate fully in society. In 2024, she authored the JRC report Delivering on Equality and Inclusion, examining the drivers of effective social change and how evidence can support more inclusive policymaking. She has worked at the European Commission since 1998.
